Notes

(A) = "accepted"

Arthur Warmisham worked at Taylor, Taylor & Hobson for 43 years as an optical designer. He was involved with ninety-nine optical patents. At Manchester University he was taught by Ernest Rutherford and Horace Lamb (Lamb had been taught by George Gabriel Stokes and James Clerk Maxwell whilst at Cambridge).

Companies etc

Imperial College, London. Wynne taught and carried out research there from 1960-1978.

Kapella Limited, 104, Stoughton Street, Leicester (address on patents). In 1914 Kapella Limited is listed as "metal workers" at 27, Guthlaxton Street, which runs parallel, and next to, Stoughton Street. (Wright's Directory)

National Research Development Corporation. Government body set up in 1948 to transfer technology from the public to the private sector.

Specto Avionics Limited. Specialised instrumentation manufacturers eg flight recorders, chronometers and early warning systems. They were involved in the development of a display for high speed, low flying aircraft. Rank Citel, who had already produced such a display (for the Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough) commissioned work on the optical units necessary for the system. However there were problems with competition from a US company and with finance. The company was sold to Smiths Industries.

Taylor, Taylor & Hobson, 104, Stoughton Street, Leicester (address on patents). Manufacturers of Cooke Lenses. Wynne worked there from 1936 to 1943

Wray (Optical Works) Limited, Ashgrove Road, Bromley Hill, Kent. Wynne worked there from 1943-1960.
